One Nice Thing: Museum Collections Coloring Pages

May 22, 2020 | Filed Under One Nice Thing | Comments Off on One Nice Thing: Museum Collections Coloring Pages
Launched by The New York Academy of Medicine Library in 2016, Color Our Collections is an annual coloring festival on social media during which libraries, museums, archives and other cultural institutions around the world share free coloring content featuring images from their collections. The coloring books are maintained on the NYAML site for people to download.
Institutions ranging from small public libraries to large museums participate, and from various countries—not just the US!
A few of the 2020 participants:
Biblioteca de la Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain
Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec
Harley-Davidson Archives (yes, the motorcycle company)
Lithuanian Art Museum
North Carolina Museum of Art
Russian State Library
The Canadian Canoe Museum
Wales Higher Education Libraries Forum (WHELF)
All told, 509 organizations from around the world have contributed images—some of them for multiple years.
Whatever you are interested in—history, nature, fashion, classical art, modern art, motorcycles, biology, medicine—the site has free art for you to download and color!
All of the art from prior years remains available as well!
Sharpen those coloring pencils, and start downloading!

Poem: From “Multitudinous Stars”—Ping Hsin

Poem: From “Multitudinous Stars”
Ping Hsin
Translated from Chinese by Kenneth Rexroth and Chung Ling

Void only—
Take away your veil of stars
Let me worship
The splendour of your face.

These fragmented verses
Are only drops of spray
On the sea of knowledge.
Yet they are bright shining
Multitudinous stars, inlaid
On the skies of the heart.

Bright moon—
All grief, sorrow, loneliness completed—
Fields of silver light—
Who, on the other side of the brook
Blows a surging flute?
